In pursuit of EU Mission Ocean's objectives, Blue Mission BANOS hosted 1st Mission Arena from 14-16 November in Gothenburg, Sweden, at the Lindholmen Conference Centre.

Mission Arena offered a platform to showcase innovative blue economy solutions, emphasizing local, regional, and national approaches for a circular, carbon-neutral blue economy.

The event brought together 500 participants from over 20 different countries, spanning roles in SMEs, startups, governmental organizations, research institutes, and more, all united by a shared passion for our seas and the blue economy.

Mission Arena laying concrete actions

Participants selected their top 3 actions from various workshops, aiming to gather concrete case studies and formulate frameworks between now and 2026, with plans for implementation from 2027-2030.

The leading choices in the 8 categories include developing a framework for quantifying and monetizing ecosystem services in biomass production, clarifying multi-use permitting processes, securing funding for local implementation of Marine Protected Areas, creating new products from alternative local blue biomass, improving policy frameworks for aquaculture, establishing vocational training programs for blue sector skills, actively involving citizens in blue economy projects, and unlocking systematic funding across the entire value chain for governance.

Mission Arena played a crucial role in laying the groundwork for the success of EU Mission Ocean by offering concrete pathways and actionable strategies. Participating as a Mission initiative, AlgaeProBANOS project was also present!

Over the course of Mission Arena's three days, AlgaeProBANOS had the opportunity to engage with stakeholders from across the Western Baltic Sea and North Sea, fostering collaboration and sharing insights with many of our consortium members and beyond.
