Origin by Ocean

Manufacturing functional textile ingredients from sustainably sourced brown seaweed

Who we are

Origin by Ocean is a biochemical company founded in 2019. We produce algae-based functional ingredients to substitute existing chemicals with high carbon footprints. Our patented biorefinery process produces valuable bio-based chemicals for use in food, cosmetics, home and personal care and textiles. Our ingredients include Sodium alginate, Mycosporin, Fucoxanthin, and Fucoidan.

Benefits to society / environment

Oceans are suffering from human-made excess nutrients. This causes harmful algae blooms, which take up oxygen and affect the balance of marine ecosystems.

By using algae blooms and farmed seaweed as our raw material, we are removing excess nutrients from the oceans and turning them into valuable products. Our vision is one where humanity has taken the action needed to reclaim the oceans back from the pollution of agricultural and chemical industries, bringing it back from lifelessness. Our mission is to help industry reimagine the value chain of chemicals, providing the algae-based ecological, decomposable, and renewable alternatives that can be used instead of oil.

New products to be developed with AlgaeProBANOS

Our work with AlgaeProBANOS will cover research into the rheology modifiers and functional ingredients from brown seaweed (Fucus, Saccharina, and Sargassum) that can be used across the textile industry
