The Algae Accelerator is a six-month mentorship programme designed to support startups and SMEs in the algae value chain to upscale their business strategies. The initiative aims to introduce new, sustainable alternatives to the market, addressing some of our ocean’s key challenges by boosting the development and uptake of innovative algae-based products.
The Algae Accelerator supports startups and SMEs by enhancing their capacity and fostering connections with experienced talents to help them achieve their goals and address challenges. We focus on those with innovative ideas for bio-based solutions and offer access to international mentors with practical expertise in the blue biotech industry and beyond.
To enter the Algae Accelerator, participants are invited to explain how they would tackle some of the key challenges the algae industry is currently facing in Europe’s algae industry, or a specific challenge being faced by an AlgaeProBANOS partner. Discover the challenges below.

Through the program, mentors can share their practical expertise in the blue biotech industry, helping start-ups and SMEs to shape and support the next generation of algae entrepreneurs. Mentors will also have the chance to connect with a global network of like-minded professionals, contributing to the growth and success of the blue economy industry. The Algae Accelerator program compensates mentors for their support with a contribution of €10,000.
